    Summer Plans

i know what you're thinking...twice in one week..what's gotten into kim??

so this week a couple of opportunities fell in my lap...

first, i was selected to work in the emergency oral surgery clinic for 2 weeks in july when we are on break. it's pretty cool b/c i will get a lot of experience and get to work with the residents, and it's only from 8-12 so afternoons are free!

second, after i finish my 2 weeks in emergency, i'll be heading up to oklahoma to work in an Indian Nations Clinic for a week. this is a preceptorship that is usually done between 3rd and 4th years not 2nd and 3rd, but the guy that was supposed to do it backed out..so now i'm going. i'm realy excited because this is going to give me a glimpse at what it would be like to work for the IHS (indian health services) which is what i'm considering doing after graduation.

so my summer is going to be busy as usual...

2 weeks from tomorrow i leave for colorado/utah....then it's back for 6 weeks of clinic/class....2 weeks of OMS..1 week in OK....then 1 week to rest before the fall semester starts! woohoo!!

ok...so does this thing still work??? j/k

    yeah it's been a while....

here's something to ponder:  my apartment is stinkin' HOT...like i'm sweating right now...but i'm too cheap to turn on the A/C......why is that??? still...i must submit myself to misery at least another day....i know i can make it an entire month with no A/C...i just know i can!

on another note....i'm almost done with my 2nd year of dental school...i know pretty amazing...i sure never thought i would make it...i've alread seen my first official school patient that i will be making dentures for. it's pretty exciting. but what is even more exciting is that this year over spring break i went on a dental mission trip to mexico, and for the first time i was able to see how my future profession connects with my true passion of spreading the love of Christ. man, everytime i think about that i get excited...i can hardly wait! only 2 years and 3 weeks baby!! on the trip i got to do a lot of "firsts" like: giving intraoral injections, drilling/filling on a live person!!, and even 2 extractions!!!! it was completely amazing! I was on a great team of total strangers...every day we had to unload our van onto this little fishing boat and take a cruise out to a little island on the gulf side of mexico..it was called "La Isla de Fantasia" aka Fantasy Island...now i don't know who named it, but it's not exactly my fantasy...no electricity, no running water, not even an actual dock for the boat..it was more like a plank that you had to balance along and hope not to fall in....BUT it was SO worth it!!! next year i would love to be back there again! here are some pics!

    Matamoros07 050 my first dilling/filling

Matamoros07 101 and my first extraction!!

Matamoros07 102 got it!! she was like the best patient ever!!
